The Mantis Shrimp, also known as the Peacock Mantis, is a sea creature that lives in tropical and subtropical oceans. The length of this creature is 12 to 15 inches. Some of the larger species are strong enough to break the aquarium glass.

There are more than 400 species that exist. Some of the species have a club to bludgeon their prey and they are called “Smashers”, some of the other species have a spear that can cut into other creatures and there called “Spearers”. Smashers attack crabs, snails, mollusks and rock oysters and the Spearers attack softer creatures like fish.

They have extremely complicated eyes and they are considered to have the most complex eyes of the animal kingdom. Their eyes, both mounted on mobile stalks and move independently, are so advanced that they could inspired a new type of optical media that would out date the current Blue-Ray technology.

The Mantis Shrimp use their florescent patterns to communicate with their own and other species. They learn and remember well, such as recognizing their neighbors by sight or smell. Their breeding is varied. Some species lay their eggs in a burrow and some females carry them under their tail. The Mantis Shrimp mate in two different ways, coming together just to mate or having a monogamous long term relationship for up to 20 years. In some species, both sexes take care of the egg and in others the females take care of the eggs while the male hunts for the food. They are also known for ritualized fighting. They move through standard locomotion like shrimps and lobsters but one species can flip it self into a wheel shape to allow itself to roll forward.

The Mantis Shrimp is known as a delicacy in Asia and the Mediterranean. It can be a sushi topping or prepared roasted, steamed, boiled, grilled or dried.

The Peacock Mantis, because of his colours, is desired for captivity. However, they are dangerous and harmful to the other creatures in the tank and some larger species can break the aquarium glass be striking it.

El Camaron Predicator, también conocido como el pavo real Mantis, es una criatura marina que vive en los océanos tropicales y subtropicales. La longitud de esta criatura es de 30 a 38 cm. Algunas de las especies más grandes son lo suficientemente fuertes como para romper el cristal del acuario.

Hay más de 400 especies que existen. Algunas de las especies tienen un mazo para golpear a sus presas y se les llama "Smashers", algunas de las otras especies tienen una lanza que puede cortar a otras criaturas y son llamados "Spearers". Los Smashers atacan cangrejos, caracoles, moluscos y ostras de roca y los Spearers atacan criaturas más suaves como el pescado.

Tienen ojos extremadamente complicados y se considera que tienen los ojos más complejos del reino animal. Sus ojos, ambos montados sobre tallos móviles y se mueven independientemente, sus ojos son tan avanzados que podrían inspirar un nuevo tipo de medios ópticos que podria anticuar la actual tecnología Blue-Ray.

El Camaron Preticator utilizan sus patrones fluorescentes para comunicarse con sus propias y otras especies. Ellos aprenden y recuerdan bien, como el reconocimiento de sus vecinos por la vista o el olfato. Su cría es variada. Algunas especies ponen sus huevos en una madriguera y algunas mujeres las llevan bajo su cola. En algunas especies, ambos sexos se ocupan del huevo y en otras especies, las mujeres cuidan de los huevos mientras el macho caza para la comida. También son conocidos para la lucha ritualizada. Se mueven a través de la locomoción estándar como camarones y langostas, pero una especie puede darle la vuelta en forma de rueda para permitirse el lujo de rodar hacia adelante.

El Camaron Predicator se conoce como un manjar en Asia y el Mediterráneo. Puede ser un topping de sushi o asado preparado, al vapor, hervido, a la plancha o secas.

El pavo real Mantis, debido a sus colores, se desea para el cautiverio. Sin embargo, son peligrosos y perjudiciales para las otras criaturas en el tanque y algunas especies más grandes pueden romper el cristal del acuario.
